Leadership Coach Training

Leadership coach training is designed for those who wish to understand and incorporate essential coaching skills into their own vocation or leadership style.

Leadership Calling offers two distinct Christian leadership training programs:

Group Leadership Coach Training

This Christian leadership training program is for administrative or adjudicatory leaders genuinely interested in equipping their key personnel with essential coaching skills in order to strengthen their leadership contribution. The result is greater cohesion and health in the organizational culture.

This seven month program can be customized to meet the needs and fit the size of your particular organization. The group training program was initially developed in 2005 for the Florida Conference of Seventh Day Adventists and due to its significant success has since been expanded within the Florida Conference. In March of 2007 the program is to be rolled out to the Georgia Cumberland Conference of the Seventh Day Adventists.

Focus of the Leadership Coach Training Program
It is increasingly recognized that strong coaching skills are central to effective leadership in today’s world, especially as top-down styles of leadership lose their effectiveness.

Acknowledging the importance of leadership skills is an important first step, but real world observation tells us that few leaders move beyond the awareness stage.

Coach training provides the hands-on method needed to insure leaders begin to actually practice and develop core leadership skills such as:

  • Listening well
  • Asking powerful questions
  • Affirming positive contributions
  • “Naming” or identifying core issues
  • Confronting key problems skillfully
  • Clarifying foundational values, and
  • Establishing a compelling vision

Through the range of activities provided by this Christian leadership training program, each participant is well-positioned to begin mastering these vital leadership skills and strengthen the organizations they serve.

More importantly, the group of leaders who complete this program will be equipped to function better as a team because they have acquired the skills together and deepened their relationships through the process.

Essentials of the Leadership Coach Training Program
The training program incorporates the top methods for transformational learning. The seven month program entails a balance of:

  • 3 two-day seminars,
  • 4 two-hour group learning sessions,
  • 12 individual coaching sessions,
  • Engaging activities, and
  • Rich reading assignments,

Since experience is the richest tool for learning and growth, program attendees will also provide coaching for two of their own people as a foundational part of their learning. Participants will receive feedback on their coaching activities during the program, deepening their learning.

By including training seminars, coaching and being coached, rich reading material, and interactive group learning sessions spread throughout the program, participants are immersed in the learning experience and have the greatest likelihood of lasting change and improved leadership functioning.

To reduce your travel expenditures and insure that participants fully benefit from the full program regardless of their location, group learning sessions are conducted via teleconference calls, and coaching sessions are phone based. Class size for this Christian leadership training program depends on the needs and experience of the group but requires at least 6 members and is limited to no more than 18. The overall size of the group will be determined by the degree of coaching experience among the group members.

Individual Coach Training

This training is customized for the individual depending on their experience level. It is intended for you if you want to be more grounded in key coaching competencies in your leadership role, or if you would like to substantially grow in your skills as a professional coach. We will evaluate your aspirations, challenges and current skill level and from there develop an action plan for you to develop the skills essential to your effectiveness and success.

A key component of your growth will be the coaching work you will be doing as a part of your training. In this robust training process, we will draw upon valuable readings, our personal model of the coaching process, your own coaching work, guided discussions and coaching role-plays to help you gain the mastery you seek.
